TERRACOTTA BOY PROJECT


Meriton company produced an original theatre performance for children 7+, Terracotta Boy, in cooperation with excellent theatre proffessionals home and abroad. Terracotta Boy features Chinese cultural elements like Xun (a traditional musical instrument), Terra-Cotta Soldiers, Chinese mythologies etc. to tell a contemporary heroic story of how a boy finds his true individuality.
Terracotta Boy is directed by Ivica Šimić (former ASSITEJ Secretary General) and produced by Xi'an Meriton Children's Theatre Company.

 

The production of Terracotta Boy premiered on 7th of May 2016.

COMPANY INTRODUCTION

 

Xi'an Qujiang Meriton Cultural Development Company for Children's Theatre was founded un 2004 with corevalues of fairness and innovation in theatre experience and art education. We are located in Xi'an, which is the birthplace of Terra-Cotta Worriors and Horses and a place that served as the capital city for 13 dynasties in Chinese history. Our main products are production of theatre performances for young audiences and organization of guest performances home and abroad. On the other hand we are delicted to implementation of DIE programs as a part of children's art education and growth. As a member of CCCAP, Meriton ogranizes many cultural exchanges and international art festivals of children's theatre in collaboration with Arts Councils from different countries, Cultural Bureau of Shaanxi Province, and local schools, communities, theatres and NGOs.
Its business mainly covers arts festival organization, community black box theatre project, drama in education program, residency artists training plan and original productions of children's theatre to establish a comprehensive platform of enhanced theatre and art experience for children and young people in China.

IVICA ŠIMIĆ, DIRECTOR

 

Ivica Šimić directed in Theatre Mala Scena, in other theatres in Croatia, in USA, Russia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Slovenia, Azerbaijan, Romania and Germany. His most famous performance is Parachutists or on the Art of Falling from 2006 that became renowned all around the world and was performed on all continents including Sydney Opera House, Koen-ji in Tokyo, Barbican Centre in London, UK, Kennedy Centre in Washington DC, USA, Buenos Aires, Edinburgh, Seoul, Osaka etc. Most of his performances were touring internationally what made Theatre Mala Scena one of the renowned European theater companies.


He served as the Secretary General of ASSITEJ, the biggest world association of theatres for children and young people (www.assitej-international.org) from 2008 - 2014, when he was granted the title of Honorary Member of ASSITEJ and also Member of the Executive Committee of ASSITEJ from 1999 to 2008.
He established International festival of theatres for children and young people Milk Tooth, and was the Artistic Director and programmer of the festival from 1998 - 2004.
Ivica Šimić publishes works in the field of Theatre for children and young people in international magazines and books, holds international seminars and workshops on Drama and Theatre for children and young people.

 

Ivica Šimić is a director of International Projects such as Borges Project - International multicultural project for ITI (International Theatre Institute), Manila, Philippines, 2006; iFdentity Project - International intercultural project for ITI, 2008; Patchwork Family Project - International intercultural project in theatre for children and young people with participation of the artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Austria and Croatia that resulted with the joint performance for young audiences - Superhero, 2010 - 2013.
